Take Five

Posted by Mark Bennett on November 13, 2012

Take Five, by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, is one of those instantly recognizable songs, due in part to its unusual 5/4 time signature. That makes it sound unlike just about every other song you’ve heard. You appreciate its unique qualities, even if at first it might even make you feel funny. Just watch people try to keep time with this song (or any other song off the terrific “Time Out” album.)

Now, just because Brubeck was experimenting, it didn’t mean he threw out all the rules or principles of music. He was just saying, “What if we tried this? What does that do to the rest of what we know about music?” He was always exploring to keep learning.

So it is with talent in the enterprise and what we try to do here at TalentedApps when talking about talent. We try to make it interesting and worth your time to read our posts by introducing new ideas, either of our own devising, or that we’ve found in our search for ways that companies and employees can both gain value from understanding how talent impacts business performance.

We’ve just hit the five year point and we appreciate the continued support of our readers, friends, colleagues, and families. We look forward to the upcoming years working together on our mission to inform and discuss issues around Talent Management in an entertaining and engaging way.

This is our fourth birthday!

Posted by Mark Bennett on November 12, 2011

Yes, it’s been four years since Mark, Meg, and Amy started this blog. The last year has seen the biggest changes in contributors – several of our longtime members started on new adventures and their writings will be missed dearly. That loss has been ameliorated by having several new and brilliant members added. All-in-all this change is a good thing. It keeps new ideas coming through here while sticking with our mission, which is to inform and discuss issues around Talent Management in a hopefully entertaining and engaging way.

I think we’ve succeeded. Having new members contribute is one of the best ways to bring in new perspectives that come with a whole different set of experiences and educational backgrounds. We are so lucky to have people on the team ready to jump in and bring their valuable thinking into this blog!

We’ve had a very busy and exciting year with Fusion and we’ve continued to nurture and build relationships with the HR, Talent, and Social communities. It’s been very gratifying to be able to talk about our products and get feedback and insight in return. As always, our thanks go out to our readership, friends, colleagues, and family for their support. We look forward to the upcoming years working together on our mission.

TalentedApps Turns Three!

Posted by Mark Bennett on November 12, 2010

King Arthur: Right. One… two… five.
Galahad: Three, sir.
King Arthur: Three.

That’s right! We’re five three!

It’s been three years today since Mark, Meg and Amy began this blog, and we are really proud of how far it’s come and how much it’s grown, the impact it’s had, and the platform it’s provided for a broad set of wonderful writers.

This last year found us continuing to build relationships with the rest of the HR, Talent, and Enterprise blogging community. We are honored to be part of such an incredibly gifted group of contributors committed to the improvement of this craft. Of course, the big event for us this last year was finally being able to speak openly about the Oracle Fusion applications we’ve been working on!

Our numbers continue to grow. Just take a look at the author list on the left and you’ll see we are up to 22 authors! Now, it isn’t a numbers contest, but rather the marvelous outcome of a having a diverse set of voices contributing to a common purpose. Each author has brought unique insight, new perspective, and really made us all think about things differently.

Our mission continues to be to help create change by improving the awareness and knowledge of our community, in an entertaining and informative way, of how to better achieve your goals through talent. Our thanks go out to our readership, friends, colleagues, and family for their support. We look forward to the upcoming years working together on this mission.

TalentedApps Turns Two!

Posted by Mark Bennett on November 12, 2009

blogphoto8It’s been two years today since Meg, Mark, and Amy began this blog. While the first year was about us finding our voice and building up our readership, this second year has been a bit more about us drilling deeper into the areas that we see as key in organizations achieving strategic impact from their talent.

This second year also found us building relationships with the rest of the HR, Talent, and Enterprise blogging community. That has been personally rewarding for each of us as well as a terrific way to help get our thinking to a broader audience. We are honored to be part of such an incredibly gifted group of contributors committed to the improvement of this craft.

Our mission continues to be to help create change by improving the awareness and knowledge of our community, in an entertaining and informative way, of how to better achieve your goals through talent. Our thanks go out to our readership, friends, colleagues, and family for their support. We look forward to the upcoming years working together on this mission.
