Did I get it right?

Posted by Meg Bear on August 20, 2008

I always take these tests thinking that there is a *right* answer, which I know there isn’t.  But this one did nail me I think.  How about you?

You perceive the world with particular attention to humanity. You focus on what’s in front of you (the foreground) and how that is affected by the details of life. You are also particularly drawn towards the shapes around you. Because of the value you place on humanity, you tend to seek out other people and get energized by being around others. You like to deal directly with whatever comes your way without dealing with speculating possibilities or outcomes you can’t control. You are highly focused on specific goals or tasks and find meaning in life by pursuing those goals. You prefer a structured environment within which to live and you like things to be predictable.

Hat tip to Charlotte’s Web for the link.

That was great… if only our self appraisals could be such fun! 🙂

I recently unearthed a personality type test that I did at a former company. I had forgotten all about this. I was surprised at how accurate the summary was of my personality, strengths and weaknesses. Is this type of analysis no longer accepted in Human Resources?

@Pete The place I see this kind of thing most embraced is on the sourcing side. Attempting to find a “fit” for a candidate is an area where testing is often brought to the table. There are a lot of skeptics in the HR profession to using this kind of tool for ongoing performance. I personally enjoy doing this kind of analysis b/c a) I’m a geek and b) I like to understand myself more to attempt to see how I can soften some of my personality quirks for the benefit of those who have to work with me.

You should know that there are some excellent management courses offered via ORCL university that provide personality profile test and 360 feedback as part of the training. I found that very helpful myself.

As far as the constructive feedback about our internal performance evaluation product do know that we are absolutely enthusiastic about our plans in Fusion there. Of course if I told you details I’d have to kill you ;-).

Great quiz, although I don’t like the labels used. Details posted on my site in a few.

I was quite surprised by my result (at first). After further analysis and discussion with my husband (and the realization that there really should have been a category called “obsessive analytical”), it seems to be pretty accurate.

Oh – and yes, you probably could have guessed. My husband is “the humanitarian.”
